I back the people I would take the meeting for anyway.
I invest time, capital and relationships in early-stage founders and partners working across energy, compute infrastructure and applied AI. Most of them come from the network rather than a pitch process.
I am not running a fund. What I have is early capital, an unusually specific network across Canadian industry, capital and government, and enough operating scar tissue to be useful before a company has product-market fit. Where an investment cannot be named publicly, I do not claim it.
Where I look
Applied AI in heavy industry
Teams putting agents and data systems into operations that actually carry risk — not another chat layer on a broken process.
Energy and compute infrastructure
Generation, grid, data centres and the software that sits between them. The place where Alberta's advantage is real.
Data and intelligence products
Decision systems for operators and investors. I have built roughly thirty of these, so I know what is hard about them.
Trade and market access
Tools and businesses that shorten the distance between a Canadian company and an international buyer.
What I bring
Capital at the earliest stage
Small early cheques and advisory positions, usually where I can also be useful operationally.
The introduction that matters
Access to operators, institutional buyers, investors and government across the Future Summit network — qualified on both sides before I make it.
Operating help
Data architecture, AI systems, go-to-market and the unglamorous work of turning a pilot into a contract.
Geography
Alberta and Canada first. International where it creates a pathway back — buyers, capital, knowledge or partners returning into the home market rather than leaving it.
Before you reach out
- You have something working and at least one real customer conversation underway.
- Alberta or Canada is part of your story — as a market, a supply chain or a base.
- You want a partner who will make introductions and then stay in the deal, not one who forwards an email and disappears.
If that is not you yet, send it when it is. I would rather see something early and real than polished and hypothetical.
